Toyota Verso SR
The Toyota Verso SR has been a great standard-bearer for quality and value in the compact MPV segment, a car that is both well-equipped and keenly priced. Now Toyota has upgraded the SR to offer an even greater array of premium features, without compromising its wallet-friendly character.

Front parking sensors have been added as standard, in addition to those at the rear. And to make manoeuvring into tight spaces even easier, there is now a proximity indicator on the dashboard, giving a clear display of how close the car is to any other vehicle or obstacle.

The SR also adopts new-design five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels and has the bonus of an in-dash six-CD changer. These items are all in addition to the established SR specification, which includes rear privacy glass, a neat roof spoiler, dual zone digital climate control, front and rear electric windows, front armrests, cruise control and the Easy Flat folding system for the five rear seats.

Reinforcing its status as perfect transport for families, Verso SR offers a great means of banishing boredom on journeys with the option of Toyota's new modular ICE (in-car entertainment) system. This comprises two seven-inch screens (a master and a slave unit) which fit securely to the back of the front seat headrests for viewing DVDs or connecting games consoles or cameras. DVDs can be loaded in the master unit for playback on both screens, or just one, leaving the other free for gaming if need be.

The system is compatible with MP3/MP4 and DivX formats and includes a USB 1.1 port on the master unit. The removable screens improve security and can be used indoors, too, with a suitable AC adapter. The option price, fitted, is £940, including VAT. If preferred, two master screens can be specified, at extra cost.

Verso SR is on sale now, available with the 1.8 VVT-i and 2.2 D-4D 140 engines, with six-speed manual transmission. The 1.8 petrol is available with optional MultiMode (M/M) semi-automatic transmission.

Toyota has also revised the specification of the Verso T Spirit to include dark-tinted rear privacy glass as standard.
Toyota powers to top of used buyers' wish lists
Toyota's success in the recent JD Power satisfaction survey has caused a peak in demand for the top scoring model the Toyota Prius.

The UK's largest car hypermarket chain, Carcraft reports that demand immediately after the publication of the report (8 May) led to a temporary shortage of the Prius, with many customers requesting to be placed on a quickly growing waiting list.

Carcraft has now replenished stocks, but predicts that shortages could occur again if the current rate of demand continues.

Paul Oakley, Regional Sales Director, from Carcraft says, "With the current financial situation, car buyers are keen for any independent confirmation that their money will be well spent. The JD Power Survey always has an impact on sales of the best scoring model, but this year's demand was unprecedented.

"The Prius' green credentials also help its popularity, especially given the recent changes to car tax rates."

Customers can buy a Prius from Carcraft from as little as £9,000, but are advised to act quickly in case shortages reoccur.

The JD Power Survey was produced from more than 16,000 responses from owners of cars registered between September 2005 and August 2006, representing 28 brands and 100 individual models. The Prius earned a score of 901 points out of 1,000.
Auris soars spring with new SR and TR
Auris is evolving to meet the needs and preferences of even more motorists with two new grades joining the line-up this spring.
  • SR follows the lead of the flagship SR180 to deliver eye-catching sports styling and specification within an even more accessible price range
  • TR provides a price-friendly combination of generous specification, exceptional safety and superior quality
NEW AURIS SR
Following the launch of the flagship Auris SR180, Toyota is introducing further sporting style to the range with new SR models powered by the 1.6 Dual VVT-i petrol and 2.0 D-4D 130 diesel engines. With great looks, generous specifications and competitive pricing, they are set to appeal to an even wider customer base.

The SR grade moves Auris right to the heart of the "mild sports" market, a fast growing niche that already accounts for more than one third of UK new car sales in the C-segment.

The new versions do more than just look good, benefiting from lowered sports suspension and riding on 17-inch alloy wheels, both from Toyota Motorsport. Other stand-out features provided as standard include a Toyota Motorsport rear spoiler and dark-tinted privacy glass - items shared with the SR180.

They also come equipped with nine airbags, climate control air conditioning, leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio controls, front fog lamps, six-speaker sound system and body colour-matched door handles and mirrors.

The SR is on sale now, in three and five-door body styles priced from £14,495. That represents excellent value to the customer, who gains an additional £1,495 of equipment and styling features at a price that is just £690 greater than that of the equivalent T3 model.

REVISED AURIS TR
The coolest note struck this spring is the introduction of automatic dual zone air conditioning on the Auris TR. The touch-of-a-dial control of left and right-side cabin temperatures tops the bill in a series of new features for the TR grade.

The new look includes a set of lean and smart five-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels, distinctive blue interior seat trim and chrome rear trim detailing. Like the new SR (above), the specification also includes nine airbags, front fog lamps, leather-trimmed steering wheel with audio controls, six-speaker sound system and body colour-matched door handles and mirrors. In spite of their superior specification, TR models cost £310 less than equivalent T3 models, giving total customer value of more than £655.

The TR is available now with 1.4 and 1.6 VVT-i petrol and 2.0 D-4D 130 diesel engines. Optional MultiMode transmission is available with the 1.6 unit.

AURIS GRADE STRUCTURE
The introduction of the new TR and SR models takes the number of grades in the Auris range to six: T2, TR, T3, SR, T Spirit and SR180.

Introduction
The new Land Cruiser V8 replaces the Amazon and is the eighth generation of Toyota's legendary Land Cruiser large-scale SUV. It remains true to its heritage in being a thoroughbred off-roader. More than that, it is equipped with world-first technologies to ensure safety, comfort and secure handling both in the rough and on the open road.

Toyota's "no compromise" approach is clear in vehicles with traditional body-on-frame construction, crucial to the vehicle's ability to tackle the toughest terrain. This tried and tested approach is matched by sophisticated handling, suspension and drivetrain systems that extend the off-road capabilities and enhance comfort and stability in normal driving.

New V8 diesel engine
The Land Cruiser V8 is powered by a new 4.5-litre V8 D-4D engine. It is the first Toyota eight cylinder diesel engine and is equipped with common rail injection technology. The unit is the most powerful Toyota diesel yet, producing 282bhp (286 DIN hp) and a prodigious 650Nm of torque, available from just 1,650rpm.

Thanks to its high efficiency, the engine has the lowest emissions and fuel consumption in its class, producing 270g/km of carbon dioxide and an official 27.7mpg in combined cycle driving. It is extremely tough, too, engineered to perform faultlessly in temperatures from -30 to +50°C.

The V8 is matched to a new six-speed automatic transmission with a manual sequential gear selection mode. As befits a serious offroader, it incorporates low ratio gearing.

World-leading suspension and handling technology
The Land Cruiser V8 is one of the most technically advanced four-wheel drive vehicles ever produced and is equipped with a series of advanced dynamic and handling features. These include the world's first four-wheel Active Height Control and Adaptive Variable Suspension (4-Wheel AHC & AVS), a fully adjustable system that also provides spring rate control. Not only does this give exceptional performance off-road - wheel articulation is so great, the car can crawl over steps with a 630mm height difference without lifting a wheel off the ground - it regulates pitch and body roll on-road to maintain ride comfort and refinement.

The full-time all-wheel drive has a new transfer unit governing the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles, with a newly developed Torsen torque-sensing limited slip centre differential, which gives improved cornering performance and driving stability. The transfer shift system lets the driver move from H4 (high) gearing to L4 (low) gearing by means of a rotary switch on the dashboard, when the vehicle is moving at low speed (up to 3mph).

Rugged and modern design
The vehicle's design is rugged yet modern, developing styling cues from the Land Cruiser's distinguished past while embracing themes from Toyota's contemporary "Vibrant Clarity" design philosophy to bring the Land Cruiser brand fully up-to-date. An equally bold approach is taken inside the cabin where the sense of ruggedness and reliability is combined with comfort, quality and a great sense of spaciousness.

Luxury specification
The Land Cruiser V8 may be engineered to cope with extreme environments, but the cabin is designed to provide premium levels of comfort, convenience and safety. Available in a single luxury specification, it is equipped as standard with four-zone climate control air conditioning, full-map satellite navigation, Bluetooth, rear parking monitor, nine-speaker sound system with six-DVD autochanger and leather upholstery. A premium JBL audio system which includes i-pod integration and ICE (in-car entertainment) pack with rear seat DVD monitors are available as options.

The flexible seven-seat interior is easily adapted to accommodate passengers or additional loads, with tumble-and-fold second row seats dividing 40:20:40 and the two rearmost seats folding to the side.

High safety standards
Occupants are protected by 14 airbags, including front knee airbags and curtain shield airbags along the entire length of the cabin. Active safety provisions include new multi-terrain ABS, which automatically adapts braking performance to suit the surface on which the vehicle is travelling. And to help minimise the consequences of an accident, a pre-crash safety system automatically tensions the driver and passenger front seatbelts when sensors detect a dangerous situation, such as the vehicle spinning or emergency braking.

Launched in the UK on 15 February, the Land Cruiser V8 is priced £55,995.
Toyota develops next-generation engine valve mechanism
Toyota Motor Corporation recently announced that it has developed Valvematic, a variable valve lift mechanism created through combining VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent), which controls the timing of intake valve opening/closing, with a new mechanism that can also control the intake valve lift volume.

While conventional engines control air intake using a throttle valve, Valvematic adjusts the volume of air taken in by continuously controlling the intake valve lift volume and timing of valve opening and closing. This ensures optimal performance based on the engine's operational condition, thus helping vehicles achieve both high fuel efficiency and dynamic performance.

The first application of Valvematic will be in a new 2.0-litre engine being introduced in the near future. This new system further evolves the Toyota petrol engine and improves fuel efficiency by between 5 and 10 per cent (depending on driving conditions), reduces CO2 emissions, boosts power output by at least 10 per cent and enhances throttle response.

Toyota positions global environmental preservation and initiatives toward energy diversification as a priority management issue in terms of its corporate social responsibility. As a part of its efforts to reduce CO2 emissions through high fuel efficiency and to achieve cleaner exhaust emissions, Toyota plans to completely revamp its petrol engine and transmission lineup by 2010.
Climate of change powered by Toyota Prius
Toyota's hybrid technology combined with a carbon-offsetting programme is set to make Climatecars, London's new eco-friendly taxi service, one of the greenest around. As its name indicates, Climatecars is taking a no-compromise stance on the environment. The company's operations are totally Carbon Neutral from the outset.

Five Toyota Prius petrol-electric cars were delivered to Climatecars at the start of June, with three more due in July and further cars to be added in line with demand. The vehicles, a combination of T3 and T4 grade models, are finished in metallic grey and fitted with black leather seats. "We're aiming to serve the corporate market in central London who care about their carbon footprints, and by operating a superior service we're looking to grow quickly," says Climatecars' founder Nicko Williamson. The service was set to start in mid-June, following driver training on the new cars.

For Nicko Williamson, a Bristol University history graduate, Climatecars is his first business and the culmination of two-and-a half-years of planning. "After looking at LPG, biofuels and other eco-friendly technologies, it was clear that hybrids were the natural way to go. "The Prius is one of the greenest cars on the road, it has plenty of space and it's a very practical option for this industry," he says. "It's an extremely clever vehicle with a lot of potential."

Climatecars' vehicles are supplied through London Toyota business centres Jemca Edgware Road and Currie Motors Twickenham. The cars are expected to average around 30,000 miles a year, and while Prius CO2 emissions are notably low at 104g/km, every mile covered will be logged and offset through the Carbon Neutral Company. Renewable energy is also used in the Climatecars office.

'Punctual cars, driven by courteous drivers who know where they're going' is Climatecars' slogan, and Nicko Williamson is confident that another selling point will be the Toyota Prius itself.

"Many people are still unfamiliar with hybrid technology, and we think that our passengers will find it interesting to travel in the Prius, with its silent running at low speeds and its energy monitor. I would think we'll be helping to spread awareness of the car and hybrid technology significantly."
The new Toyota Yaris SR
The Toyota Yaris SR 1.8 is a new flagship model for the Yaris range, bringing sports performance, style and refinement to a car that's already a leader in terms of safety, equipment and comfort.

It is powered by a new 1.8-litre petrol engine with Dual VVT-i technology and benefits from sports-tuned steering and suspension, a striking body kit, 17-inch alloy wheels and a premium equipment specification that offers more in terms of comfort and convenience features than any of its segment rivals. Add to that Yaris's class-leading safety performance, with a five-star Euro NCAP adult passenger safety rating and a unique-in-class standard-fit driver's knee airbag and you have a formidable all-round package.

Beyond the SR 1.8, Toyota is also introducing new SR versions of the Yaris, powered by the 1.3-litre VVT-i petrol and 1.4 D-4D 90 diesel engines. These combine sports styling and high equipment specification with highly competitive prices and ownership costs.

The SR 1.8 is the first Toyota to be powered by the new 1.8 Dual VVT-i petrol engine, equipped with intelligent timing for both intake and exhaust valves to deliver smoother performance and greater efficiency. Maximum output of 131bhp (133 DIN hp) is achieved at 6,000rpm, with 173Nm of torque delivered at 4,400rpm. This gives nought to 62mph acceleration in 9.3 seconds, with combined cycle fuel economy of 39.2mpg. Carbon dioxide emissions are 170g/km, placing the SR 1.8 in Band E for Vehicle Excise Duty.

The SR 1.8's chassis and suspension are tuned for good handling and ride comfort. The suspension has also been lowered for a more rewarding driving experience and the Electric Power Steering has been adjusted for quicker and more precise response to driver input. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) are provided as standard, in addition to ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

The Yaris SR 1.8 is available in both three and five-door body styles. To complement its sportier performance, it features a rear roof spoiler, side skirts, chrome sports exhaust, LED tail lights and deeper front and rear bumpers, the front fitted with integrated fog lights. The interior is equipped with sports seats and an upholstery fabric that's exclusive to the model. There's also a leather trimmed steering wheel, chrome trim detailing and an amber-lit Optitron instrument display with analogue read-outs.

Building on the high specification of the existing Yaris T Spirit model, the SR 1.8 gains exclusive-design 17-inch alloy wheels, plus VSC with TRC and sports pedals. It also features climate control air conditioning with pollen filter, Smart Entry and Start system, six-speaker audio system with CD player and MP3/WMA file playing function (from disc), a reach and rake-adjustable steering column, electrically adjustable door mirrors and front fog lamps.

The arrival of the SR 1.8 gives the Yaris a new sporty dimension and its impact is spreading further into the model range with the introduction of other new SR versions powered by Toyota's 1.3-litre VVT-i petrol and 1.4-litre D-4D 90 diesel engines. Launched at the same time as the SR 1.8, these feature models enable customers to enjoy sports styling and high equipment specification with competitive on-the-road prices and ownership costs.

The SR 1.3 and 1.4 D-4D match the current T Spirit specification with the addition of turbine-style 15-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, chrome exhaust finisher, front scuff plates and brushed alloy gear knob. Other high quality features include the Smart Entry and Start system, climate control air conditioning and front fog lamps. In spite of all these extra features, the SR models are £615 cheaper than their T Spirit equivalents.
New Toyoya Auris
Auris is a new name for an all-new Toyota, a family hatchback designed, developed and engineered for the European market. The best selling models will be built in Europe too, with the most popular models coming from Toyota's Burnaston factory near Derby. Distinctively styled, and delivering first class safety and driving performance, Auris is set to transform Toyota's profile in one of the most significant and competitive market sectors.

Built on a new platform, Auris is available in three and five-door body styles and with a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines, three transmissions and four model grades: T2, T3, T Spirit and the flagship T180. Sales start on 1 February, with T180 and three-door models joining the line-up from 1 April. Prices are from £11,995 on the road (T2 1.4 VVT-i three-door). In 2007, Toyota aims to sell around 22,000 Auris in the UK.

Auris was created at Toyota's European design studio ED2 and has a distinctively short and tall shape, its class-leading height contributing to excellent headroom and comfort for all passengers.

The designers worked from the inside out, to make the best possible use of interior space for both comfort and practicality. This is particularly effective in the rear, where clever design of the exhaust system has allowed for a flat floor.

Auris has a highly efficient aerodynamic shape, which contributes to vehicle stability, low levels of noise and fuel economy.

Auris follows the pattern set by the latest generation of Toyota models in adopting the Minimal Intrusion Cabin System (MICS), ensuring a basic construction that enables impact forces from an accident to be absorbed and channelled away from the passenger cell.

The effectiveness of the safety provisions is reflected in independent Euro NCAP crash test ratings that are among the very best in the C-segment. Auris is the fifth Toyota to gain the top five-star award for adult occupant protection, with four stars for child occupant protection and three stars for pedestrian safety.

Special attention has been paid to reducing the risk of injury to pedestrians, with impact absorbing qualities built in to the bonnet structure and bumper and radiator mounts and a crushable structure fitted to the back edge of the bonnet.

Active safety features include ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) with Brake Assist (BA) fitted as standard on all versions. Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), with Traction Control (TRC), is provided on T180 models, and is available as an option on all other versions.

All Auris models benefit from nine airbags, including a first-in-class driver's knee airbag as standard. The front seats and head restraints are constructed to Toyota's latest-generation Whiplash Injury Lessening design, while in the rear, Isofix child seat mounts are provided.

All models feature air conditioning, reclining and split-folding rear seat, electric front windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors, remote central locking and a sound system with CD player that can play digital music files stored on disc.

T3 versions gain 16-inch alloy wheels, colour-keyed door mirrors and handles, front fog lamps, heated door mirrors, leather trim on the steering wheel and gear shift knob, electric rear windows (five-door models), audio controls on the steering wheel and a six-speaker sound system.

T Spirit grade introduces automatic headlights and wipers, dual zone climate control, Toyota's Smart Entry and Start system, cruise control and an auto-dimming rear view mirror. The T180 has smoked glass headlamps, dedicated interior trim, 17-inch alloy wheels and sunroof, in addition to the T Spirit specification.

Auris uses new front and rear suspension systems engineered to deliver ride comfort, stability and rewarding handling performance. At the front an L-arm MacPherson strut arrangement is common to all versions, while at the rear a compact torsion beam is deployed, with springs and dampers located independently, to avoid intrusion in the boot space. The T180 differs from other models in using a multi-link rear suspension, designed for better dynamic performance in line with its higher performance capabilities.

Auris uses a new Electric Power Steering (EPS) system with a quick (14.44) ratio and speed-sensitive feel. Requiring just 2.9 turns lock-to-lock, it gives precise and instant driver control.

The Auris range offers performance and economy; 130mph and 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds for the T180 while the 1.4 diesel records 56.5mpg on the combined cycle.

Flagship engine of the range is the 2.2-litre D-4D 180, one of the most advanced diesel engines available on the market. This 175bhp (177 DIN hp) power plant is exclusive to the Auris T180. Matched to a six-speed manual gearbox, it produces 400Nm of torque between 2,000 and 2,600rpm, giving acceleration from rest to 62mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 130mph, with combined cycle fuel economy of 45.6mpg.

The D-4D 180 is equipped with Toyota's D-CAT clean diesel technology, which includes a maintenance-free four-way DPNR catalyst that reduces nitrogen oxides and particulate emissions to class-leading low levels.

The 1.4-litre D-4D 90 eight-valve diesel engine is capable of 56.5mpg (combined cycle). Ideally suited for town driving, its urban cycle consumption is more than 40mpg, with carbon dioxide emissions of 132g/km. Auris is also available with a 2.0-litre D-4D 130 engine, a multivalve unit that delivers 124bhp (126 DIN hp). This engine's qualities are already well-proven in the Avensis, combining high torque (300Nm between 2,000 and 2,800rpm) and low noise levels. The nought to 62mph acceleration benchmark is reached in 10.3 seconds, with fuel economy of 52.3mpg (combined cycle).

The principal petrol engine is a new 1.6-litre petrol unit with Dual VVT-i: an intelligent, variable timing system for both inlet and exhaust valves that improves fuel efficiency and power output across a wide range of engine speeds. Expected to be the most popular engine choice in the range, this 122bhp (124 DIN hp) four-cylinder unit produces 157Nm of torque, giving nought to 62mph acceleration in 10.4 seconds, a top speed of 118mph and combined cycle fuel consumption of 39.8mpg.

The entry point to the petrol range is Toyota's 96bhp (97 DIN hp) 1.4-litre VVT-i engine, which delivers 40.9mpg (combined cycle), acceleration to 62mph in 13.0 seconds and a maximum 106mph.

Three transmissions are offered: five-speed manual for the 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol and D-4D 90 diesel engines; six-speed manual for the D-4D 130 and 180 engines; and the option of Toyota's MultiMode transmission on the 1.6 Dual VVT-i and D-4D 90 engines.
Revised engine for Toyota Land Cruiser
The engine range for the Toyota Land Cruiser has been revised in line with Euro IV emissions standards. Both the 3.0-litre D-4D diesel and 4.0-litre VVT-i V6 petrol unit have been re-engineered to produce lower levels of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon dioxide emissions are also slightly reduced.

The changes have resulted in only minor variations in performance: maximum output from the 3.0-litre D-4D rises by 7bhp to 171bhp (173 DIN hp). Fuel consumption figures are marginally altered, between +1 and -0.5mpg. Full details of the adjusted performance figures are given in the table below.

The new engines are available from 1 January and there is no change to the vehicles' on-the-road prices. Their introduction coincides with an enhanced specification for diesel Land Cruiser models, which are now fitted with Toyota's acoustic windscreen and additional sound absorbing material in the dashboard to improve noise and vibration levels.
New Toyota Auris awarded 5-star from Euro NCAP
The new Toyota Auris has been awarded a best possible 5-star crash safety rating from Euro NCAP.

The strong body structure, which allows minimal cabin intrusion, and the fitment of up to nine airbags add up to outstanding passenger safety. In particular, the combination of a driver knee airbag and a collapsible steering column led to the 35 point, 5-star result for adult occupant protection.

A key benefit to Auris customers with young children are the standard ISOFIX anchorage points on the outer rear seats. These helped gain a four-star rating for child occupant protection. Euro NCAP also awarded the Toyota Auris a class-leading three out of four-star rating for pedestrian protection.

Auris also recorded top results in the side impact and pole impact tests, plus an overall 94 per cent score in the frontal impact test.

Andrea Formica, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing & After Sales, Toyota Motor Europe: We have always sought to ensure that every new Toyota enjoys the highest levels of safety.

We are very confident that the new Auris will impress customers with its safety performance combined with the distinctive design and engaging driving dynamics.

The detailed Euro NCAP results show that the Toyota Auris scored 35 points for passenger protection (maximum: 37 points), 37 points for child protection (max: 48 points) and 21 points for pedestrian protection (max. 27). With this result, the Toyota Auris qualifies amongst the safest vehicles in its segment.

The new Toyota Auris is on sale in the UK from 1 February, 2007.

Today Toyota announces the first details of the Auris, a new core model in its range that will play a key role in advancing its brand ambitions in Europe. Auris, which is designed and built in Europe, will join Yaris and Avensis in spearheading the company's progress towards its newly-announced target of 1.2 million annual sales in Europe by 2008.

Auris has been created to meet the changing demands of the crucial C-segment family hatchback market. It offers a dynamic design and striking features and delivers the well-established hallmark Toyota values of superior quality, innovation and driving pleasure.

DESIGNED FROM THE INSIDE OUT

In creating Auris, the designers worked from the inside out, an approach that maximises usable space in the cabin and ensures high levels of passenger comfort through elements such as a flat rear passenger floor and high window surfaces. Built on an all-new platform, Auris has an overall length of 4,220mm and a long, 2,600mm wheelbase, giving excellent stability and ride quality. With an overall height of 1,515mm and width of 1,760mm, it provides generous interior accommodation.
The interior is distinguished by innovative design that works to harmonise driver and passenger with the car. At the front the sculpted console forms a bridge that's not just elegant, but is practical, too, raising the gear lever and other controls to the perfect ergonomic height.

The design work was undertaken at Toyota's European styling studio ED2, following the principles of Toyota's Vibrant Clarity design philosophy - forward looking and energetic, while retaining clarity of purpose and rationality. The production model retains many of the design cues from the Auris Space Concept, which Toyota premiered at this year's Paris motor show, including a high waistline, short overhangs and forward balance of the cabin architecture.

On the outside, Auris has a strong, dynamic appearance that expresses its driving character. The wide body and track give a stable look and the sharply-defined architecture of the car creates a crisp, fresh feel.

A RANGE FOR TODAY AND TOMORROW

The Auris model line-up will cover the full range of current and future customer demand in the European C-segment. At launch it will be offered in three and five-door hatchback body styles with a choice of two petrol engines (1.4 VVT-i and 1.6 Dual VVT-i) and three diesels (1.4, 2.0 and 2.2 D-4D), all of which meet Euro IV emissions standards.

The new 1.6-litre petrol engine uses a dual VVT-i valve timing system for highly efficient combustion, raising fuel efficiency and increasing power.

The 2.0-litre D-4D 130 engine has a power output of 124bhp and was first utilised in the 2007 Avensis, launched a few months ago. The 2.2 D-4D 180 is equipped with Toyota's unique D-CAT clean diesel technology, which simultaneously reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate emissions.

A wide choice of gearboxes will be available, too, including a six-speed manual transmission fitted as standard on the 2.0 D-4D 130 and 2.2 D-4D 180. A MultiMode system with paddle shift controls will be available as an option on the 1.4 D-4D 90 and 1.6 Dual VVT-i engines.

Andrea Formica, Toyota Motor Europe Senior Vice-President Sales, Marketing and After Sales, said: The C-segment is the most important segment in the European car market and many European brands are defined by the image and success of their C-segment models. With the launch of Auris we want to achieve a step-change, not only in sales volume, but also in terms of brand image for Toyota.

Auris will be presented for the first time at the Bologna motor show on 5 December. UK sales will start in February 2007, in advance of other European markets, which will offer the car from next spring. Auris is also being sold in Japan, from today.
Life begins at 40 for the Toyota Corolla
Cars come and go but the Toyota Corolla - much like Dr Who - has regularly regenerated to meet the demands of time and outlasted most rivals. This year the world's biggest selling car is celebrating its 40th birthday - and it is not finished yet.

The first generation Corolla was introduced in Japan in October 1966. Now, 40 years on, the Corolla is built in 16 different countries, a barometer of the global expansion of Toyota as much as the popularity of the model itself.

In 2005 alone, 1.36 million Corollas were produced in 16 countries/regions* and by the end of June this year, cumulative worldwide production reached 31.60 million units. That represents more than 2,160 cars every day - 90.1 cars per hour, every hour - for 40 years.

Since its debut, the Corolla has been the number one seller in Japan in 36 out of the past 40 years. It not only helped establish Toyota in Japan, but the USA and UK, too, and in the 21st Century it continues its 'missionary work' with growing sales in developing markets such as China and South America. Another 40 years at the top seems very likely.

Over the years Corollas have won races and rallies, done innumerable school runs, helped millions learn to drive and, in the shape of the 1980s' T Coupe (AE 86), even become a youth culture icon through the Initial D series of books, TV shows and movies.

Happy birthday Corolla!

* 16 countries/regions include Japan, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Venezuela, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistan, India, China and South Africa.
2007 Toyota Avensis Unveiled
As the flagship of Toyota's European model range, the Avensis occupies a pivotal position in building awareness of the Toyota brand as a whole. Since the current model was launched in 2002, it has succeeded in defining the superior quality, refinement and driving pleasure that characterises all new Toyotas.

Its work, however, is not yet done. With the launch of the new 2007 Avensis, Toyota raises the bar in terms of quality and performance in the upper-medium segment. More than that, it also marks the introduction of two new diesel power units to give the Avensis one of the most modern and efficient engine ranges in its class.

NEW 2.0-litre D-4D 130

The previous 2.0-litre D-4D engine is replaced by a new D-4D 130 unit that delivers improvements in every dimension; it is more powerful, offers faster acceleration, is more fuel-efficient, produces lower exhaust emissions and is quieter and smoother.

Developing 124bhp (126 DIN hp) and 300Nm of torque at 2,400rpm, the D-4D 130 gives nought to 62mph acceleration in 10.3 seconds and a 124mph top speed. In combined cycle driving it can return 51.4mpg, with 146g/km of carbon dioxide emissions.

THE AVENSIS T180

The new Avensis also gains the 2.2-litre D-4D 180 engine, featured exclusively in a new top-of-the-range T180 model. This 175bhp (177 DIN hp) unit is the most powerful and cleanest engine in its class. It moves the Avensis from rest to 62mph in 8.6 seconds and on a top speed of 137mph. Combined cycle fuel consumption is 46.3mpg and carbon dioxide emissions are rated at 161g/km.

The engine's clean performance is achieved through Toyota D-CAT (Diesel - Clean Advanced Technology). This system includes Toyota's DPNR four-way catalyst that continuously and simultaneously reduces nitrogen oxides and particulate emissions. As well as being highly efficient, it requires no maintenance.

Befitting its status, the T180 model comes with some select extra features, including smoke-finished 17-inch alloys, smoked glass headlamps and leather and Alcantara upholstery.

The D-4D 180 leads an engine line-up that includes the current 1.8 and 2.0-litre VVT-i petrol units and the 2.2-litre D-4D 150, launched in the Avensis last year.

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR STYLING

The new Avensis adopts new styling features for a more dynamic look, including a new grille, front bumper and headlamp design, plus new-look rear lamp clusters. The door mirrors have also been changed and fitted with built-in indicator lights. In the cabin quality has been further improved with new upholstery and dashboard trim inserts.

EQUIPMENT UPGRADES

The T2, T3-S, T3-X, T4 and T Spirit grades are carried forward but with some key changes to the equipment specifications. All versions gain the new door mirrors with integrated turn lights and more sophisticated audio system with improved sound reproduction and the ability to play digital music files stored on CD. T3-X models are fitted as standard with dusk-sensing headlights and height adjustment for the front passenger seat, with D-4D models additionally gaining cruise control. Cruise control is now standard on T4 models, too, while T Spirit versions benefit from a new six-disc CD autochanger.

MORE DRIVING PLEASURE

Small but rewarding adjustments have been made to the suspension and steering system to achieve noticeable improvements in ride and handling quality.

Suspension changes include retuned shock absorbers, adjustments to the bushes in the rear suspension and changes in anti-roll bar thickness. The result is less road noise, improved ride comfort and better cornering and braking stability. Body rigidity has also been increased with strategic strengthening of key elements, thus improving suspension control.

The Avensis's efficient aerodynamic performance has been further improved, particularly with regard to the smooth flow of air beneath the car. Detailed revisions reduce the level of wind noise and also contribute to better fuel consumption and vehicle stability.

PRICES AND INSURANCE GROUPS

Prices for the new Avensis range start at £15,515 for the 1.8 VVT-i T2 saloon and hatchback. As with the current generation model, equivalent hatchback and saloon models cost the same, with Tourer estate versions adding an extra £1,000 to the price.

Insurance groups remain the same for the 1.8 and 2.0 VVT-i and 2.2 D-4D 150 engines. Model for model, the new 2.0 D-4D 130 models are also rated the same as the previous 2.0 D-4D range, in spite of being more powerful and better-equipped. The new Avensis T180 has been given a 12E rating. The E designation indicates that the Avensis exceeds the standards set by the British insurance industry, earning the model lower group ratings. The 2007 Avensis range is priced from £15,515 for the 1.8-litre VVT-i T2 up to £23,015 for the T Spirit 2.0-litre VVT-i Tourer with automatic transmission.
Toyota presents three new sports-themed show cars at Geneva
Sports-themed concepts of three of the newest models in the Toyota range are making their world debut under the spotlights at the Geneva Motor Show this week. The wraps are coming off special versions of Aygo, Yaris and the RAV4 to reveal eye-popping styling, performance tweaks and a bold approach to putting the fun back into driving.

Aygo for Sports and the RAV4 Sports, based on the production T180 model, are both displayed as one-off show cars, demonstrating the inspired design and engineering talent at work within Toyota.

The Yaris T Sport, although a concept prepared for the Geneva show, paves the way for a sporting version of the all-new model that will be launched in 2007.

YARIS T SPORT CONCEPT

  • Concept leading the way for production Yaris sports model in 2007

  • New 1.8-litre petrol engine

  • Extensive sports body styling features

  • 17-inch alloy wheels

The Yaris T Sport is a design exercise that points towards a production sporting Yaris that is scheduled to arrive in showrooms during 2007, powered by a new 1.8-litre petrol engine.

The key reference point for Toyota's development team was to create a refined sports hatch, compact in size with fun-to-drive qualities to appeal to younger buyers, but also with high equipment levels and comfort appropriate for both day-to-day driving and longer trips.

The sports styling is bold, with a black mesh grille at the front that adds emphasis to the deep bumper with integrated fog lights. There is a redesigned bumper at the rear, too, plus deep side skirts and a tail spoiler.

The T Sport is fitted with 17-inch wheels for sharper ride and handling, while new-look tail lights, a chromed exhaust pipe and a T Sport badge on the front grille add the finishing sports touches. The concept car is finished in a dedicated body colour, Storm Grey.

AYGO FOR SPORTS

  • Open-top Aygo for Sports designed for fun and freedom

  • Two-seater with twin arched rails, but no roof

  • Radical use of interior trim materials, including teak and Neoprene

  • 17-inch wheels and LED light clusters

Aygo has brought a welcome breath of fresh air to the city car market. Now the wild Aygo for Sports concept version, created specially for Geneva, shows how those on board can enjoy a blast of healthy ozone and blaze a trail to the beach.

Off comes the roof and out come the rear seats to create an open-top machine that's focused on fun. In place of the roof, Aygo for Sports has a pair of elegant but strong side hoops that curve over the car like a twin tribute to the new Wembley Arch. Massive 17-inch rims shod with 205/45 R17 tyres and LED light clusters add to the look-at-me styling, together with a special bright Ocean Blue paint finish.

Inside, the sculpted seats are finished in light blue Neoprene with beige leather inserts, with matching Neoprene detailing on the steering wheel. And to emphasise this Aygo's beach party credentials, the floor is covered in teak in the best tradition of classic speedboats.

RAV4 SPORTS

  • High-performance sports conversion

  • Based on flagship RAV4 T180 with D-4D 180 engine tuned to deliver 201bhp (204 DIN hp) and 450Nm of torque

  • Aerodynamic body kit

  • Lowered suspension and larger brakes

There is no mistaking the intention of the RAV4 Sports concept, with a beefed-up exterior that includes new bumpers, grille and integrated front fog lights. At the front there is large intake set in above the front protection plate, with a matching plate at the back housing the neatly faired-in exhaust.

To the side there are deep side skirts for enhanced aerodynamic performance and the 21-inch alloy wheels fill the wheel arches to the limit, fitted with 255/35 R21 tyres front and rear.

The 175bhp (177 DIN hp) 2.2-litre D-4D 180 common rail diesel engine, which in standard form is already the most powerful engine in its class, is specially tuned for the RAV4 Sports to deliver 201bhp (204 DIN hp) and 450 Nm of torque.

To meet the demands of the uprated engine, air cooling capacity is increased with a larger front grille and additional air intakes in the bonnet. Braking performance is also greater, with perforated discs with six-piston callipers at the front and four-piston callipers at the rear. The suspension is stiffer and lower compared to the regular T180, with reinforced shock absorbers to ensure the Sports can take the rough as well as the smooth.

Dark tinted glass ensures privacy for those on board, while the Liquid Metal exterior colour has been created exclusively for the model.
Toyota F3R Concept
Toyota has introduced living-room like space and style to the motoring world with its latest concept vehicle, the funky F3R.

The surprising F3R, which makes its debut at the North American International Automobile Show in Detroit today, is a creative, sporty extension of a concept all but forgotten in today's automotive world - that of the minivan.

The project was a joint undertaking of Calty Design Research Inc., Toyota's California design studio, and the company's California-based Advanced Product Strategy group.

Younger people are hanging out in their cars. When they do that, the car becomes an entertainment area. The F3R expands on that concept. It's a sophisticated extension of the home, said the car's designer.

To create that extension, the design team came up with three very modern looking sets of seats. Each is unique, composed of modern, metal-edged bottoms and asymmetrical backs whose symmetry is completed by semi-integrated headrests. They can provide roomy, comfortable seating for eight adult passengers.

Up front, the driver's seat reclines and swivels, and the passenger seat reclines to form a comfortable bench. In the middle, the seats split and fold to form, with the rearmost or third row, an avant-garde sofa built around the sort of conversation area you might find in a designer living room.

This is surrounded by a casual, wrap-around backrest formed by the continuous, flowing curve of the instrument panel, doors and rear seatback panels. These are accented by fibre-optic lighting panels in the seat sides, and in the F3R's side door, that can be lit to provide illumination during lounge chat sessions.

But there's more to do here than just chat. That's because the F3R is equipped with two track-mounted flat-panel video screens. These allow the vehicle's occupants to enjoy movies or games whenever they want, and to do so in complete comfort, with control supplied by an audio/video/lighting remote unit that docks in the F3R's dash.

The F3R's design emphasises environmentally sensitive materials, in keeping with the theme of environmental sensitivity suggested by the Hybrid Synergy Drive badging. These materials include floor panels made from Ecoresin, a specially formulated resin that can be recycled; and a skin-friendly simulated leather seating material called Mythos that, unlike most plastics, does not produce the harmful chemical dioxin when it is burned.

The starting point for the F3R's exterior shape, meanwhile, featured a van that conveyed maximum volume, with a tall, wedged body shape that incorporated wide, dynamic shoulders, with its sporty 22-inch wheels and wide performance tyres planted at the extreme boundaries of all four corners.

The result is that the F3R looks like a stylish performance vehicle, but with a feeling inside that is very airy and light.

The F3R is a concept vehicle filled not only with intelligent drama, but with exactly the fresh take on three rows of seating, and on the usable space that vans so effectively provide, that Toyota was looking for.

Toyota wanted anything but a minivan. What they got was a sporty new vehicle that defies an easy label; with a dramatic, iconic shape that is as distinctive as that of the Toyota Prius and an interior that is more adaptable and more family friendly than anything previously seen.
Toyota Prius primed for 2006
Toyota is introducing a series of new design and equipment features to take its multi-award winning Prius into the New Year. The world's cleanest family car is adopting a fresh face for 2006 with changes to the styling of its headlamps and rear light clusters and a restyled front grille.

Inside the cabin, comfort for passengers has been improved, with an adjustment to the hip point for those sitting in the back. Quality, one of the fundamental elements of all Toyota models, has been raised further with new upholstery colours, a soft-touch paint finish for the dashboard and the introduction of a leather-trimmed steering wheel across the range. A new leather upholstery option has been made available, replacing the previous combination of leather and suede-effect Alcantara, and three new metallic paint finishes - Vermillion Red, Verbier Green, and Tyrol Silver. A fourth new colour, Decuma Grey, will follow in April.

The Prius is one of the world's most technically advanced cars, with its clean and supremely efficient hybrid powertrain, by-wire functions for the throttle and automatic transmission, and fuel-efficient electric power steering. Owners now have the chance to increase the level of technical wizardry with an option package for T Spirit models that includes a rear parking monitor and Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA).

The parking monitor uses a rear-mounted miniature TV camera to show the driver the area immediately behind the vehicle. This can be overlaid with guidelines to make reverse manoeuvres simpler and safer.

IPA can provide even greater assistance for reverse parking manoeuvres. Where space permits, the system will help the driver steer the Prius into a parking space. After positioning the car at the appropriate angle and within required safe distances from neighbouring vehicles, IPA will calculate the correct course and engage the necessary steering angle for the manoeuvre automatically. The driver must control the throttle and brake during this procedure.

The new-look Prius will be available from 1 January 2006, priced from £17,795 on the road, an increase of just £250 over the current model. The Intelligent Park Assist is available as a £400 option on the T Spirit model only.
The new Toyota Yaris
The first generation Yaris has been a top performer for Toyota, its sales rising every year from launch in 1999 to the point where it accounts for one in every four of the brand's models sold in Europe.

It's a hard act to follow, but in engineering and styling the all-new Yaris, Toyota has not only refined the qualities that have distinguished the original, it has also made significant advances in quality, safety and versatility.

Big Car Thinking describes the approach that has shaped the way the new Yaris delivers exceptional levels of interior space and quality. The increase in dimensions is put to good use to provide class-leading room for passengers and their luggage. And thanks to Toyota's Easy Flat system, the rear seats can be folded down quickly and easily to form a generous and flat-floored load space, a feature that's unmatched in the Yaris's class.

Clever design also makes life more comfortable for rear seat passengers: re-routing the exhaust gives a flat floor, removing the central hump that traditionally compromises the middle seat. In the new Yaris, there is space for three adults in the back.

Where safety is concerned, Toyota has met the challenges set by the Yaris's short front overhangs and created a car that commands the highest five-star rating for occupant protection in Euro NCAP crash testing. The vehicle uses the well-proven Minimal Intrusion Cabin System (MICS) that has helped the Avensis and Corolla Verso achieve similarly high test results, with a basic framework that efficiently disperses and directs impact forces away from the passenger cell.

Up to nine airbags are available, including the segment's first driver's knee airbag - standard on all but the entry-level T2 grade.

The new Yaris is available in three and five-door body styles with a choice of three engines. The 68bhp 1.0-litre VVT-i petrol engine is the starting point, delivering up to 52.3mpg in combined cycle driving and carbon dioxide exhaust emissions at 127g/km. Top seller is expected to be the 86bhp 1.3 VVT-i unit, carried across from the previous Yaris, but with modifications for better performance and lower emissions.

The lightweight, all-aluminium 1.4-litre D-4D 90 diesel engine offers substantially more power and torque than before and is capable of 62.8mpg (combined cycle). A five-speed manual gearbox, revised for sharper, more precise shifts, is fitted as standard, but the 1.3-litre VVT-i and 1.4-litre D-4D 90 units can be specified with MultiMode (M/M) transmission for automatic or manual sequential gear changes.

Three grades are on offer: T2, T3 and T Spirit. T2 models come with remote central locking, driver and passenger front airbags, electrically adjustable door mirrors, CD player, electric front windows, rear seats that individually (60:40) slide, recline and fold down with the Easy Flat system and electric power steering. Additional features on T3 versions include front side, curtain shield and driver's knee airbags, leather-trimmed steering wheel with auxiliary audio controls, air conditioning and an upgraded sound system that can play MP3 files stored on disc.

Top-of-the-range T Spirit grade introduces a keyless Smart Entry and Start system, climate control air conditioning, front fog lamps and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Toyota Corolla full of New Year promise
All too often the move into a new year provokes a mood of self denial and a determination to shed pounds and shun booze. Toyota is displaying a more generous spirit by giving its Corolla customers more rather than less choice. True, there are no free chocolates or whisky to be had, but the incentive to buy is stronger than ever before with extra equipment specification for the five-door Corolla Colour Collection.

We may be promised the coldest winter in years, but the new Toyota Corolla Colour Collection lets owners keep out the chill with climate controlled air conditioning now provided as standard. And to make those early morning starts less finger-numbing, the electrically adjustable door mirrors are equipped with heaters for quick clearing.

The interior gains a smart new appearance with a brushed metal effect centre console and a silver fleck seat fabric. To complete the New Year new look, there is a set of bespoke six-spoke 15-inch alloy wheels and a metallic paint finish in Silver Steel, Ixion Blue or Eclipse Black.

These features are in addition to an established Colour Collection specification that includes front fog lamps, front, front side and curtain airbags, a sound system with CD player, electric windows and a leather trimmed steering wheel with audio controls.

The new Corolla Colour Collection is available now, exclusively in five-door hatchback body style, with the choice of 1.4 and 1.6-litre VVT-i or 2.0-litre D-4D engines; the 1.6 is available with the option of automatic transmission. On-the-road prices start at £11,595.
Aygo is car of the year
The Aygo is not only one of the best value machines on the market, it's every bit as brilliant as a supercar that's almost 120 times more expensive to buy. That's the opinion of BBC Top Gear magazine, which has awarded its 2005 Car of the Year title jointly to Toyota's Aygo and the Bugatti Veyron.

Aygo has brought a new dimension to the city car market, with its great driving character, contemporary style and superb value for money. And being priced from £6,475 on the road, it's a more realistic prospect for motorists to buy than the Veyron, at around £810,000. It's easier to park, too, has two extra seats in the back and there's room for your shopping in the boot. It won't hit 250mph, but it's nimble enough for a Top Gear game of five-a-side football, a skill the Veyron has yet to demonstrate...

Aygo's top honour was the crowning glory among a series of Top Gear gongs to set the mantelpiece groaning. In addition to the Car of the Year award, Aygo also picked up a Jeremy as Best Small Car, while Toyota's sister brand, Lexus, marched off with Best Executive/Luxury Car for the new IS 250.

In the recent Top Gear survey Lexus recently also took awards for the RX 300 and IS models in the 4x4/SUV and Executive/Luxury categories respectively as well as winning the overall manufacturer category.
Half a million turkey exports for Christmas
Toyota kicked off the festive season by celebrating production of the 500,000th vehicle manufactured at its plant in Adapazari, Turkey. The seven-seat Corolla Verso rolled off Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey's (TMMT) line yesterday (1 December) in front of a gathering of representatives from government, local communities, suppliers and Toyota executives from Japan and Europe.

The plant is so successful that it became Turkey's leading exporter in 2004 and in 2005 expects to produce approximately 140,000 vehicles for Europe, with an export value of more than £1.4 billion. The plant has a maximum annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, employs 3,500 people and represents an investment of £511 million.

Toyota has eight manufacturing plants in six countries across Europe, including two in the UK. For 2005, Toyota plans to produce 635,000 cars, 541,000 engines and 259,000 transmissions in Europe and sell 980,000 vehicles, which would mark the company's eighth consecutive year of record sales.
Toyota worldwide hybrid sales top 500,000
With approximately 513,000 units sold worldwide by the end of October this year. Toyota Motor Corporation launched the Prius - the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle - in Japan in 1997 and began selling it in North America, Europe and elsewhere in 2000. In 2001, it added in Japan the Estima Hybrid minivan, the Crown luxury sedan mild hybrid and the Dyna light-duty hybrid truck.

Aiming to achieve a fusion of environmental performance and power, in 2003, TMC introduced in the second-generation Prius a new-generation hybrid system based on the concept of Hybrid Synergy Drive. In 2005, it expanded use of this system to power-demanding SUVs in the form of the Lexus RX400h (Harrier Hybrid in Japan) and the Highlander Hybrid (Kluger Hybrid in Japan).

Not stopping there, TMC is preparing a Hybrid Synergy Drive-based hybrid system for rear-wheel drive passenger vehicles and expects to introduce it on the Lexus GS450h, scheduled for launch in spring 2006.

TMC has positioned hybrid technology as its key technology in addressing environmental issues in the 21st century, and it intends to enhance its hybrid line-up while encouraging the widespread use of hybrid technology.

Toyota join highways agency motorway force
Thirty-two Toyota Land Cruisers are joining what is set to become one of Britain's most visible 4x4 fleets, with more to follow next year. They are part of the biggest shake-up in motorway emergency management since the network began and will have to live up to their reputation for reliability.

Under the new arrangements, 1200 Highways Agency traffic officers are being deployed to free up police by managing all but the biggest traffic incidents, and keeping traffic moving. The officers have been operating on West Midlands motorways since last spring, the south-east since August and begin operations in the north-west and north-east in September. By mid-2006 they will be patrolling all of England's motorways around the clock. The HA teams have no enforcement powers although, working through seven Regional Control Centres, they co-operate closely with the police.

Using four makes of 4x4 spread between the regions, including the five-door Toyota Land Cruiser 3-litre diesel automatics, the officers carry out high-visibility patrols, attend accident scenes, remove damaged and abandoned vehicles and clear debris. They also supervise road or lane closures, direct traffic, place and operate signs and manage traffic surveys.

Contract hire company Lloyds TSB Autolease was asked to produce a shortlist from 12 possible vehicle manufacturers to fulfil what Highways Agency Project Sponsor Graham Pittaway describes as a long, detailed specification. Among other factors, the agency required vehicles that could carry a potential 625kg payload, including emergency gear and up to four people, and diesel automatics for economy and reliability. All those selected are prestige 4x4 vehicles, said Mr Pittaway. Four-wheel drive was specified to offset risks in wintertime, to maintain tractability and for the safety of the crew.

The vehicles have a crew of two, and carry traffic cones, first-aid kits, warning lights, water containers, road-clearance implements and other accessories, contained in a bolted-in purpose-built rack system. They also have roof warning lights and variable message signs at the rear.

The Land Cruisers are being delivered to Qi Van Systems of Telford to carry out the conversions. They are also applying the HA livery of yellow/black chequerwork, with red and orange bands on the boot, the logo in black on a blue bonnet and a black HA with vehicle number on the roof.

We're proud that our vehicles are assisting in this significant development in motorway management, said Toyota Fleet General Manager Jon Pollock. These Land Cruisers will be among the hardest-working vehicles on the road and we're confident that they will meet expectations.

Rembrand draws on Toyota quality
Scotland's largest independent timber supplier, Rembrand Timber Ltd of Dundee, has begun replacing its car fleet with Toyota Yaris and Corolla models.

Rembrand imports timber, sheet materials and joinery products from all over the world. Based on a culture of complete customer service, the company has more than 100 staff, an annual turnover of more than £24 million and its own distribution service, with local depots across Scotland providing a fast-track delivery service.

Rembrand's car fleet numbers some 30 vehicles, and these are driven by its team of sales representatives, managers and other office staff. The company's previous agreement was with Citroen, but it recently decided to switch makes, and is now expected to take on up to 10 Toyotas a year.

We were looking to get the best cars we could in terms of build quality and price, said Managing Director John Lawson. Reliability was also an important factor. We have chosen Yaris and Corolla, and may be looking at the Verso version in the future. The company recently took delivery of its first Toyotas, Yaris T3's and Corolla T2's powered by the manufacturer's economical and eco-friendly 1.4 litre D-4D diesel engines. It's early days yet, but the drivers are happy with the cars, and Toyota Fleet has been very helpful, said Mr Lawson.

The vehicles are supplied on three-year contract hire deals by Carlisle-based Custom Fleet. Over the lease period, sales staff cars are expected to average 30,000 miles a year, and managers' around 12,000 miles
